The old adage proves that what’s on the outside isn’t necessarily on the inside.
A quick saw and glance through the cross section shows that a lot of run of the mill suppliers aren’t investing in the best quality methods. These dipped posts have absorbed about 3 tree years worth of creosote that will form a short lived protective barrier so long as the exterior doesn’t receive any damage. If you’re buying with ‘best prices’ in mind being the only key factor, then these are most likely the grade you’ll end up with.

Octopost Creosote

Many UK fencers vouch for Octopost as their desired product and looking through this cross section the grade is ok for quite a bit of end use.
Not a cheap product by any means, however you could get a good few, maybe up to 12-15 years of use from these.
Creosote impregnation levels here are nearing the 50% mark but there are still troublesome areas where moisture may penetrate through vulnerable areas where ‘checking’ or ‘cracking’ appears to be an issue.
